Bound for Three

Sat, 10 May 2008 07:17:52 -0400

Saturday May 10. Camp 2. 8:00am Update: Last night was a good Night. Dinner was at 6pm and was fried rice and pasta with sauce. It was pretty good. We sat around talking for a while as we did not want to go to bed until 8pm. Our head Sherpa, Lama Babu, came in to talk. He had just returned from the day working on ropes to camp 3 and setting up camp 3. Eleven Sherpa had spend two days working and everything is completed. They have set an up and a down line to camp 3 and tent platforms have been c

May 9 Camp 2 Walking In The Oven

Fri, 09 May 2008 07:59:13 -0400

Friday May 9. Camp 2 6400m.
We made our break for camp 2 today. It was a bit of a death march. By the time we got to camp 1 I was a bit of a zombie, and by camp 2 I was the walking dead. Actually I did get a second wind by camp 2 so it was not too bad.
We departed at 5:30am as planned. In retrospect this is a little late and I would vote for about an hour earlier next time.
I don't think I slept one minute last night. I did not doze at all. I went to bed at 9pm and quickly overheated. Once

Heading Up To Camp 3

Thu, 08 May 2008 04:22:21 -0400

Just a short note to let you know we are finally heading up to camp 3. Communication restrictions are still in place for a few days. Hopefully when I come down I will be able to send a bunch of postings to fill in some of the missed days. If all goes as planned we leave for camp 2 early May 9. We will spend the night of the 9th and 10th at camp 2 and then move to camp 3 for the night on May 11. We will spend one more night at camp 2 on the 12th, and be back in base camp on the13th. Wish us luck.

Before We Go Back Up

Mon, 05 May 2008 04:43:42 -0400

Saturday May 3. Last night after dinner we decided to have a party. This will be the FREE EVEREST Cocktail Party. It will start at 5:00pm and go to 7:00pm or so. We have sent out invitations to half of base camp. I suspect it will be a big turn out as people are looking for something to do and for an outlet for their stress. However, many people have also used this forced break to go down valley for a few days. We have decided to stay here in the hopes that we can get back on the mountain soon;

Back From Above

Fri, 02 May 2008 00:34:36 -0400

Sent from Gorak Shep.
The following are several days worth of thoughts. This will help to catch you up a bit.
Saturday April 26. Everest Camp 1 6040m. 2:00pm.
I am right now sitting in my tent at Camp 1. It was a long time coming, but all 5 of us plus Lama Babu are here.
Our plan, as I have likely said several times, is to spend one night at camp 1, several nights at camp 2, and hopefully one night at camp 3 if permitted.
This morning we woke at 4:30am, got dressed, had some breakfast,

Holding Pattern

Wednesday Sent from Gorak Shep.
April 23-25. Everest Base Camp. Waiting Day.
I have decided the I will categorize base camp days into Rest Days and Waiting Days. Rest days are for recovery from a trip up the mountain, whereas Waiting Days are days that are not needed for rest and recovery, but are just days waiting for the right time (or permission) to go up again.
Today was a waiting day.
Yesterday at lunch Dave Elmore (Mountain Professionals Co-Founder) arrived in camp with three trekk

Scott calls from Base Camp

Tue, 22 Apr 2008 21:19:16 -0400

Hello, this is Susan, Scott’s wife. Scott called today from base camp. It was great to hear his voice. He certainly had a bit more of the Khumbu cough than the last time I spoke with him but he said he is feeling very well otherwise. The team plans to start climbing again on Friday. They plan to go to camp 1 and spend a night or two, then head to camp 2 for a night or two. If camp 3 is established they would like to head up there for a visit to acclimatize then head back to base camp.

Another Day in Base Camp

Mon, 14 Apr 2008 05:13:55 -0400

Monday April 14. Another Rest Day in BC. Today was another rest day in base camp. We hope to know more later today about access to the upper mountain and communication. Right now there are only roumours so I will not add to them. Breakfast was at 8am again. It was a pretty relaxed affair as we did not really have a plan for the day. We decided to do a walk to Pumori base camp. The walk started by backtracking on the base camp trail for about an hour. We then cut off to the right and followed a b
